Left Coast Naturals is working hard towards creating a truly sustainable business and a lower footprint. We operate off of Triple Bottom Line Results. We believe that businesses are an integral part of society and we want to have a positive impact on society.

Environmental: examples of some of our many environmental initiatives...

• All Paper used in office (from business cards to envelopes to invoice paper/fax paper) is 100% post consumer recycled FSC certified paper.
• All office supplies are purchased through frog-file - sustainable sourced (pencils, ink, paperclips etc...).
• All Packaging has been minimized in manufactured products from smaller cases and bags to solvent-less lamination bags to high % recycled cardboard and working towards fully compostable packaging.
• All Company provided food for BBQ’s, lunches, events is certified organic (all coffee/sugar/tea at office is fair trade, certified organic for example).
• Office lighting has been altered so that the lowest amount of energy is consumed and more natural light is used to create a positive work environment.
• Pallet Wrap is recycled.
• Employee environmental bonuses - we want to increase our “sphere of influence” by providing our employees the means to making positive changes in their own lives. For example - every month bonuses are given for:
  • Riding a bike/walking to/from work - $150/month
  • Taking Transit to/from work - $75/month
  • Eating over 50% of groceries Organic - $75/month
  • Carpooling - $40/month
• Every year an employee gets $200 put in a fund to purchase environmental improvements in their home (i.e. double glazed windows, new furnace)
• Every 2 years employees get $200 towards the purchase of a bike
• Buy local when possible - Food Miles are used as an important criteria when looking at raw materials as well as products we distribute.
• 100% of our power used comes from low impact or renewable sources (solar, wind and low impact hydro). We purchase this through Bullfrog Power.

Charity:

• Left Coast Naturals donates 5% of profits to environmental and community causes (including Farm Folk City Folk, COABC (Certified Organic Association of British Columbia), Organic Trade Association, Burnaby Food Bank, Covenant House and EarthSave among others).
• We are currently launching a new environmental brand called Element Organics that will donate 5% of sales to Nature Conservancy Canada.
• Employees are provided with “free” holiday days to volunteer at charitable organizations.

Social:

• Left Coast Naturals provides it’s employees with many corporate wellness programs.
• Every week we have a yoga instructor come in and do a free 1hr class which all employees can attend during working hours.
• 1/month we have a massage therapist come in to the office to provide free massages.
• Every Friday is a free company BBQ with organic food supplied by Left Coast.
• We have many corporate events throughout the year as well as a corporate volleyball team.
